                 ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION RESOURCES

  • Many materials, resources, and people are available to assist educators inside and outside the schools to meet State Goals for Learning in Science and the Social Studies, including the conservation and environmental education mandates. Nearly a dozen state agencies and numerous statewide organizations conduct programs aimed at assisting teachers to deal with .... "the conservation of natural resources including, but not limited to, air and water pollution, the effects of excessive use of pesticides, preservation of wilderness areas, forest management, protection of wildlife and humane care of domestic animals." (Sec, 27-13.1, Illinois School Code.)
  • The Illinois State Board of Education and the Illinois Advisory Board on Conservation Education work with these agencies and organizations and serve as coordinating bodies to make their programs readily available to schools and teachers. Call (217) 782-2826 for more information,
  • Readers who would like to work with others interested in conservation and environmental education can join the Environmental Education Association of Illinois (EEAl), 261 S. Chana Road, Chana, Illinois 61015, and participate in its activities.
