Are You Ready to Pay $4 a Gallon for Gas This Summer?

Fuel prices up 40% in last four months

The growing importance of corn to our society is reflected in current demand and higher prices. Some, such as our “friends” in the oil industry, would have you believe this is a bad thing. In fact, they are investing millions of dollars to generate negative media and discredit ethanol.

The only real problem we have is if we don’t grow enough corn. The good news is U.S. corn
farmers are capable of meeting society’s needs. Growing yields and record crops prove this.

$123 Billion in oil Profits

Even with petroleum industry profits of $123 billion, the oil industry remains indifferent to the economic impact of highergas prices, the negative environmental impact of fossil fuels and need for energy security and energy independence.Petroleum profits are almost 1.8 times the total value of the entire 13 billion bushel U.S. corn crop. What do you think is having the biggest impact on our economy, your cost of living,  and your lifestyle?

Consumers have a role to play
Gas expenditures increased almost five times more than the expenditures for dairy, cereal, bakery, meat, poultry, eggs, fruits and vegetable products consumed at home for the average family of four. If the startling oil industry profits make you angry it is time to put apathy aside and get involved.

When oil prices rise so does the cost of everything else

http://www.foodandfuelamerica.com/2007/11/gasoline-prices-rise-and-so-does.html Ethanol is our best weapon today to fight back. If you aren’t using 10% ethanol…start. If you don’t own a flexible fuel vehicle consider one when you make your next purchase. http://www.drivingethanol.org/ethanol_in_vehicles/ffv_chooser.aspx
A total of 31 FFV models are available in 2008 from 5 auto manufacturers: Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Nissan and Mercedes Benz and E85 fuel is getting easier to find every day:

Corn gives us food and fuel and it stays in our domestic economy

The number one contributor to rising food costs is transportation….and we all know what gas and diesel prices are doing….see Mr. Exxon/Mobil, Shell, Chevron, BP and Connoco above trying to convince Congress why they should keep $18 billion in tax breaks over the next decade!
If you want to see through the petroleum smoke screen, educate yourself.

Little Impact on Overall Food Prices

As consumers, we all understand the pinch  to our pocketbooks when food prices increase. Grocery store shoppers (and restaurant diners) need to understand that the cost of food ingredients in products they buy represents less than one-fifth of the price at checkout. Only 19 cents on every dollar spent goes back to the farm. Other factors, especially ones that are energy-related and therefore often petroleum-dependent, have greater impact.

How much of an impact do rising corn prices have on overall food prices? Studies released in the Summer of 2007 are shattering the myths about the relationship between the price of corn, ethanol production and food prices. These studies are proof that agriculture can continue to meet the nation’s growing demand for both food and fuel.
