ICGA Mission Statement

ICGA is a grassroots membership organization with 5,000 members. ICGA maintains a high profile in the legislative arena in Springfield, IL and Washington, DC through the benefit of membership dues. The Illinois Corn Marketing Act precludes the use of corn checkoff dollars for legislative activities so ICGA utilizes its membership income for these activities.

While Illinois Corn Marketing Board devotes resources to developing programs and materials geared toward corn market expansion, it takes ICGA volunteers and manpower to educate the public on a consumer level, and work to represent the industry's best interests.

Examples of ICGA efforts include: distribution of educational materials such as the Captain Cornelius comic books, grocery store and service station promotions, educational exhibits at state and county fairs, and working with statewide media on issues like ethanol.

ICMB Mission Statement

The ICMB serves the interests of and is accountable to all Illinois corn producers The Illinois Corn Marketing Board is a group of 15 farmers from across the state who are elected by their fellow producers. This producer board has the mission of increasing the profitability of corn production. They do this by developing and maintaining markets for corn and corn products. ICMB collects and administers the .00375 cent checkoff on each bushel of corn sold. This special fund makes needed corn utilization research possible and paves the way for the development of new uses for corn. ICMB’s effective coordination of research, education, public relations and market development programs is quite a success story. On the research front alone, ICMB has invested $4 million in more than 50 scientific projects. Although the pay back on research is generally slow to come, ICMB can already claim a number of successes such as hastening commercialization of corn-based degradable products like loose fill packing material; funding ethanol research that has been a catalyst for a 620 million bushel corn market; and laying the groundwork for futuristic technologies such as polylactic acid (PLA) which can be used to make a host of biodegradable plastic products from horticultural films to fabric.

Illinois corn producers, through ICMB checkoff dollars, also fund the U.S. Grains Council, U.S. Meat Export Federation, and the Poultry and Egg Export Council, leaders in overseas market development, and the National Corn Growers Association which addresses domestic market development and research on a national scale. Corn Checkoff...it's an investment in everybody’s future.
