UPDATE ON PROP 37 TO MANDATE GMO LABELS

Published: Mon. Sep 10th, 2012

While you’re busy with the start of harvest during an incredibly tough year, California voters are being pressed to vote into law an action that would require the mandatory labeling of foods that contain GMO ingredients. Although this proposed law would just be in California, that state’s actions end up dictating what happens in other parts of the country.

Illinois Corn has remained actively engaged with California’s legal initiatives. In particular, the actions of the California Air Resources Board with regard to ethanol remain a hot topic.

Dr. Steve Savage of the University of California recently sat down with GreenState TV to discuss California's ballot initiative on GMO labeling, and his article "Six More Good Reasons To Vote No on California Prop 37."  In this six part series Dr. Savage explores the ins and outs of GMOs, safety, food labeling, the collision of science and politics, ballot initiatives, and most importantly -- the real science behind this highly politicized initiative. Be sure to watch as we post the succeeding installments in the coming weeks!
