Illinois Council on Best Management Practices
The Illinois Council on Best Management Practices is a coalition of Illinois agribusinesses and agricultural organizations that desire to assist and encourage adoption of best management practices (BMPs) to protect and improve water quality in Illinois.
In other words, this group of agricultural leaders is trying to determine the best farming techniques to improve Illinois water. They are also a source of information and support for local watershed groups and water quality initiatives and the host for current research to protect water quality in Illinois.
The goals of the group are:
- Identify and/or develop effective, environmentally sound, and economical BMPs for production agriculture.
- Increase the adoption of BMPs through education, information transfer, research and demonstration, and incentive/recognition programs.
- Assist and/or facilitate the technical and financial resources needed to carry out the mission of the project.
- Identify priority watersheds to concentrate resources.
The specific organizations involved are the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Fertilizer and Chemical Association, Syngenta Crop Protection, Illinois Pork Producers Association, and Illinois Soybean Association.
