May 8 – CORN GROWERS ASSOCIATION FIGHTING BACK: The Illinois Corn
Growers Association will launch a new radio advertising campaign next week that will tell the farmer’s side of the food and fuel story. The effort will feature ICGA President Art Bunting of Dwight and former ICGA
President Steve Ruh of Sugar Grove.
The effort will begin in downstate by alerting members but will expand to more
consumer oriented messages in Chicago and St. Louis the following week. The script for the first commercial is below.
The thought of Ethanol causing higher food prices hard to swallow? The
Illinois Corn Growers Association thinks so too. If you are a corn grower I bet you are tired of the beating your crop and your industry are taking because of bad information. This is Steve Ruh. I serve as a
Corn Growers Association leader and I am proud to grow corn for food, feed and fuel. ICGA is fighting back. Record setting oil prices are running up food prices and draining our economy. We want the public to know.
Worldwide droughts, a weak U.S. Dollar, and speculative investment in Ag commodities are all pushing food prices higher. We want the public to know. The chairman of the White House’s Council of Economic Advisers
says ethanol has increased food prices by only one quarter of one percent. We are up against unimaginable odds, but we have been here before and won, together. In the days and weeks ahead we will be asking for
you help. I know ICGA can count on your help. Thank you.
