Dan serves as the District 9 director on the Illinois Corn Marketing Board, serving Adams, Brown, Hancock, McDonough, Pike and Schuyler counties. He feels this commitment is well-worth his time because of the broader world view he has obtained from his involvement with the organization and because of the chance to meet and learn from other Illinois farmers.
Dan farms in Plainville, IL with his wife, Mary. He grows corn and soybeans and has farmed since 1993. Dan has invested in conservation on his farm in many ways, including no-till (no tillage – this is a means of preventing soil erosion and reducing inputs). He also has implemented 100% cover crop usage on his farm. Not only does he believe in covercrops on on highly erodible land he actively promotes it.
He is also a proponent and beneficiary of the Farm Service Agency’s Beginning Farmer program, which is still available today to farmers who seek to begin their own farming operation.
Dan enjoys spending his free time with his family, including Mary, his grandchildren, and his two children.
