Are gas prices getting you down? If you have a flex-fuel vehicle, there’s no better time than the present to be fueling up with E-85 or another higher blend of ethanol. With pump prices soaring over the $4 mark, ethanol is more attractive than ever with E-85 available at more than a $1 discount in some areas.

This morning in Bloomington-Normal, gas prices for regular unleaded had surged over $4, with many stations selling 87 octane regular fuel for $4.09 a gallon. E-85, however, was available for $2.99. As you know, all flex-fuel vehicles can use fuel up to and including E-85. And at $1.10 cheaper per gallon, why wouldn’t you?

As farmers, we hope that you’re asking your local retailer to include E-85 as an option at their station. And if it’s available to you, we certainly hope that you’re fueling-up with E-85! You know that expanding markets are important to your corn prices, and this is a simple way to do that.

Ask your retailer to carry E-85 or install a blender pump. Then fill-up there and encourage your neighbors to do the same. As the demand for the fuel builds, so will the demand for your corn at one of Illinois’ 13 ethanol plants.
