IL PORK EXPO OFFERS ITEMS OF INTEREST TO GRAIN FARMERS

Raising hogs in Illinois can be a good way to add profitability options to your farm.  If you are considering bringing a son or daughter back into your business or are simply interested in understanding how to reduce your fertilizer costs with manure, you’ll be interested in attending the 2014 IL Pork Expo, February 4-5 at the Peoria Civic Center.

A special breakout session will be held on Weds, Feb. 5th from 9:00 – 10:30 AM for anyone interested in learning more about current contract production opportunities for pork production in Illinois. This session is targeted to grain farmers who may be interested in learning more about contract production as an opportunity to help diversify their farm and in many instances help bring back the next generation to the farm.

Nic Anderson, Livestock Business Developer with the IL Livestock Development Group (ILDG) will moderate a panel discussion titled “Opportunities and Expectations for Contract Growers”. This panel will feature the following representatives:

  • Tim Steinkamp, Cargill
  • Matt Henry, The Maschhoffs
  • Al Muhlenbrook, Tri-Oak Foods
  • Bob Keller, Keller Grain & Livestock

Also during this session, Laura Pepple from the University of Illinois will discuss “Fertilizer Values – Saving Money by Using Manure”.

A Market Outlook Roundtable will also be held on Feb. 5th from 10:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Todd Gleason, a Farm Broadcaster with WILL Radio & University of Illinois will moderate a panel discussion on a market outlook for corn, soybeans/soybean meal & hog markets. Hear from marketing experts on their outlook for 2014 and ways to manage your marketing risk for crops, feed inputs and hogs.

IL Pork Expo attendees can also see the largest swine-specific trade show in Illinois! The trade show with 142 booths representing 128 companies will be open on Tuesday, Feb. 4 from noon-6:00 PM & on Wednesday, Feb.5 from 8:00 AM-4:00 PM.

The IL Pork Expo is a great opportunity to network and socialize with a diverse audience of key decision makers in the Illinois pork industry.
