BLOOMINGTON, Ill.-Illinois Corn Growers Association is hosting a telephone town hall call and a series of three webinars the last week of January to assist Illinois corn farmers in the process of signing up for the new farm bill.

In a recorded message delivered to tens of thousands of Illinois farmers via phone calls on January 26 and 27, ICGA President Ken Hartman will alert corn farmers of the telephone town-hall meeting. That telephone town-hall meeting is scheduled for January 27 at 7pm.

Interested farmers and landowners should go to www.ilcorn.org/farmbill2014 for details. Advanced registration is required for the webinar of choice. Please follow all directions as it may be necessary to download a small software program to view the webinar. Those attending the webinar will view the presentation on their computer and dial in with a telephone to hear the presenters.

The webinars are scheduled for:

  • Wednesday, January 28 at 11am.
  • Wednesday, January 28 at 7pm.
  • Thursday, January 29 at 7 am.

Each webinar will cover the decisions to 1) keep or update yields, 2) retain or reallocate base acres, and 3) choose a program to receive commodity program payments. Commodity program choices are Agricultural Risk Coverage at the county level (ARC-CO), Price Loss Coverage (PLC), and ARC at the individual farm level (ARC-IC).

General advice will be given. To maximize risk protection, landowners generally will choose the yield option with the highest yield and choose the acre allocation that minimizes soybean acres and maximizes corn acres.
