Here at IL Corn we know that building demand must be our top priority when you’ve done your job well. Many in the industry expect corn yields here in Illinois to be near the 200 bushel per acre mark. That’s a lot of corn that needs a home.

We’ve partnered with the Proexporter Network to study where the corn we grow here in Illinois goes. They updated their projections in mid-September. Here’s a look at the latest.

For the 2016-17 crop year:

Expected yield: 200bpa
Production: 2.3 billion bushels
Total used in state:  1.285 billion bushels
Feed use in state: 112 million bushels
Processed in state: 967 million bushels
Of that for ethanol: 545 million bushels
Residual: 206 million bushels
EXPORTED from the state: 874 million bushels
Also, 734,000 metric tons DDG fed to animals. 2,159,000 metric tons DDG exported

A quick look at this chart shows how important the export market is, so we have prioritized improvements to our waterways transportation system. It also shows how vital the ethanol industry is to local corn prices, confirming a strong commitment to ethanol market development.
