December 18 - ICGA LEADERSHIP FLY IN TO SUPPORT USMCA RATIFICATION

Today, members of the Illinois Corn Growers Association Board of Directors cleared their schedules to participate in a fly-in in Washington, DC.  They will meet with several members of the Illinois Congressional Delegation to be sure each understands how important the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement for trade is to Illinois corn farmers.

“A lot of the members still haven’t taken a public position, so we want the last thing they hear to be good things about it [USMCA],” said Randy DeSutter, ICGA Vice President.

DeSutter from Woodhull, along with District VII Director Mark Bunselmeyer from Maroa and Jim Tarmann, IL Corn staff, met with Congresswoman Lauren Underwood, Congresswoman Cheri Bustos, Congressman Rodney Davis, Congressman Brad Schneider and Congressman Bill Foster to discuss the trade deal.

Mexico is the largest international buyer of U.S. corn and U.S. dried distillers grains with soluables.  Canada is the second largest international buyer of U.S. ethanol.  Both markets also have significant impacts on U.S. livestock purchases.  Together they make up 25 percent of all U.S. ag exports.
