INVESTMENT PUTS ILLINOIS FARMERS IN FRONT OF THE NON-FARM PUBLIC

Dec 01, 2011  |  Today's News

The Illinois Corn Marketing Board, together with the Illinois Beef Association, Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Pork Producers Association, and Illinois Soybean Association continues to invest in re-introducing Illinois farmers to the public.

Through Illinois Farm Families, the collaborative effort of all five organizations, four lucky prize winners were drawn out of more than 135,000 consumer registrations.  Two of those winners, Sidney Gatschet from Chicago and Jennifer Harris of Peoria Heights, received grand prizes of $5,000 worth of free groceries.

Additional sweepstakes prizes for a “Family Harvest Day” and a “Fall Get-Away” were also awarded. Gloria Elliston of Palatine brought her grandson’s family, including two great-grandchildren, for a visit to Larson Farms in Maple Park for lunch, a combine ride, and a farm tour. Mary Dean of Jacksonville was presented a bed and breakfast stay and basket of Illinois specialty products, sponsored by Illinois Farm Bureau and Illinois Specialty Growers Association, at Jefferies Orchard in Springfield.

The program has not only shown the generous side of Illinois Farm Families but has also brought contestants to www.watchusgrow.org to meet Illinois farmers, read blog posts written by Illinois farm moms and wives, and read stories from urban moms that were selected to participate in farm tours around the state.

Reaching out to the public continues to be a high priority for Illinois Corn.
