At the end of June, the Institute for Journalism & Natural Resources took a group of journalists on a tour of the Mississippi River.  They wanted to understand the issues impacting climate and natural resources along the river – and they had a full schedule!

The 18 journalists started in Minnesota and worked their way down the river where, eventually, they ran right into the dilapidated locks that you deal with every day.

On Day 6 of the tour, they finished in Downtown Alton, Illinois, talking about the Melvin Price Locks and Dam with the folks that work there, The Army Corps of Engineers, the Waterways Council, Inc, Federation for Outdoor Resources, and others.

You can watch some of their tour of the lock here:

Don’t forget, there’s potential for some funding to start a project at LaGrange Lock and Dam in the coming year!  How can you help? Text LOCKS to 52886 and join the Waterways Council advocacy program.
