Many of you have some of your crop in the ground, if not all of it and you’re probably interested in growing degree days and plant vigor. The rest of you that are waiting to continue planting might be concerned about rainfall and soil temperature. At IL Corn, we can help you with all of those.

On LandViewer, geospatial technologies can help you assess crop progress throughout the season. Using technologies developed at the University of Illinois Chicago, LandViewer provides daily updates of corn vegetation progress (using NASA Satellite data), corn relevant weather variables (growing degree days compared to last 5 years, soil moisture, soil temperature) crop stress variables (high night time temperatures, drought pressure) and a projection of yield potential.

All data is updated daily and available for free at the national and state-level resolution.

You can evaluate the seven day forecast for your area and see that rainfall is eminent so you probably should expect the fields to dry out anytime soon.

You can also see soil temperatures across the state to evaluate planting timing and anhydrous ammonia application for this fall.

We look forward to later in the year when plant vigor will become an important measure of our final harvest. Make sure you come back to check it out!
