LOCKS AND DAM UPGRADES A PRIORITY NEXT WEEK IN WASHINGTON

The Illinois Corn Growers Association’s farmer leaders will head to Washington, DC on Sunday for our yearly lobbying visit. Priorities for the four days are preserving the integrity of the Renewable Fuels Standard, negotiating an effective farm bill, and encouraging Congress to partner with industry to fund upgrades to our locks and dams on the Illinois and Mississippi Rivers.

It is extremely timely then that the Waterways Council Inc, one of our partners in the effort to upgrade locks and dams, has released a video this week to increase the visibility of our needed projects and what an investment in river infrastructure can mean to America.

This week in Washington, DC, Illinois Corn will talk about the Capitol Development Plan, ready to be introduced in the House by Congressman Whitfield of Kentucky as WAVE-4 and supported by Congressmen Costello, Johnson, and Schock of Illinois.

We will also discuss the inefficiencies at Olmsted Locks and Dam.

The reality is that such large amounts of funding are going to be hard to come by in the current political climate. Our hope is that we can elevate the discussion and help our elected officials understand that an investment in infrastructure is an investment in jobs, commerce, and continued economic gain for America.
