MAKE EVERY DAY AG DAY IN 2012

Agriculture education efforts abound during Ag week, held this year on March 4-10.  During Ag Week, communities are encouraged to host their own programming to recognize and celebrate the contribution of agriculture in our everyday lives.

Yesterday was Ag Day, a special day during Ag Week set aside to really celebrate the abundance provided by agriculture.  As producers, agricultural associations, corporations, universities, governmental agencies, and even the Illinois Corn Marketing board join together to provide Ag Day festivities in Washington, DC, more and more non-farmers slowly understand the massive contribution of our industry to their day-to-day living.

The Agriculture Council of America hosts the campaign on a national level with help from sponsors like the Illinois Corn Marketing Board and others, but also encourages every American to understand how food and fiber products are produced, value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy, and appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant and affordable products.

If you are reading this, you certainly know how food and fiber products are produced, but does your neighbor?  If you are reading this, you likely already value the industry that provides your livelihood and so many others across the nation, but do the other families at your church?  You probably also appreciate the safe, abundant and affordable products you are growing, but do your kids’ friends at school and their families?

Ag Day is over and Ag Week will end tomorrow.  Illinois Corn challenges you to make EVERY week Ag Week.  Talk about your farm, your job, your values, and your love of the land to the non-farmers around you.

Make every day Ag Day in 2012.
