ICGA SUPPORTS USMCA RATIFICATION

Illinois Corn Growers Association President Ted Mottaz, a farmer from Elmwood, Ill., issued the following statement regarding the Association’s support for the U.S. Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA).

“Congressional ratification of USMCA is the top priority of the Illinois Corn Growers Association this year. NAFTA paved the way for what has become a vital, foundational trading relationship that underpins corn prices for our members. USMCA improves upon that relationship.

“Mexico and Canada account for more than twenty-five percent of our agricultural trade. Mexico is a top corn market. Canada is a top ethanol market. Illinois corn farmers simply cannot afford to lose a preferred trading relationship with our North American neighbors.

“ICGA will be activating our members in the coming months, getting them plugged-in on this issue, to contact our Illinois congressional delegation to ask them to ratify USMCA this year while also urging the Administration to keep the current NAFTA agreement intact until the new agreement is ratified.”

STATEMENT ON LIKELY DELAY OF E15 RULE

Illinois Corn Growers Association President Ted Mottaz, a farmer from Elmwood, Ill., issued the following statement after U.S. Department of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue commented during a U.S. House of Representative Agriculture Committee hearing regarding the timing of the EPA’s rule regarding the year-round sale of higher ethanol blends.

“We appreciate Secretary Perdue’s communication regarding the delay in EPA completing the E15 RVP parity rule. It’s disappointing that President Trump’s promise is a casualty of the shutdown. We urge EPA to issue no-action letters to retailers so they have some certainty in offering the fuel."
