In a press release from his office today, Senator Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) outlined his goals for the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee in the 112^th Congress. 

Anyone with an interest in agriculture would agree that there are a multitude of topics that need to be addressed, but for farmers, the likely “top of the priority list” topic is the burdensome regulations the US Environmental Protection Agency and others are attempting to place on farmers and ranchers.  Farming is, after all, a business AND a lifestyle.  While farmers enjoy the lifestyle and make a commitment to it, they certainly can’t continue producing food, fiber, and fuel for the world if the business side of things doesn’t work.

Illinois Corn was happy to see that Sen. Johanns addressed these over the top regulations as an important topic for the Senate Ag, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee to consider. 

“The American farmer is second to none in their ability to provide the food, fiber and fuel needed to feed our citizens and others around the world,” Johanns said. "This Administration has clearly demonstrated an inclination to unnecessarily regulate and over-burden our farmers and ranchers to a stifling degree, and it is the Committee's important duty to assert its role as representatives of our ag producers.” 

We watch with anticipation to see the good work Senator Johanns plans in the 112^th and look forward to helping him accomplish this lofty goal.
