One important facet of the Illinois Corn Marketing Board’s programming is their effort to support livestock production within the state.  The largest part of that effort comes from their investment in the Illinois Livestock Development Group (ILDG).

ILDG is a partnership of Illinois commodity groups (Illinois Beef Association, Illinois Corn Marketing Board, Illinois Farm Bureau, Illinois Milk Producers’ Association, Illinois Pork Producers Association, and Illinois Soybean Association) that seeks to increase the number of head of livestock within the state.  To do this, we work on PR campaigns around the state and hire a Livestock Business Developer (Nic Anderson) to help producers work through the process of siting or expanding a livestock facility in Illinois.

One growing ILDG outreach opportunity is their website, www.illinoislivestock.org.  While the website design may not look different than the last time you saw it, the way the website is built is now substantially different, allowing for more frequent updating of information.

Of course, an important update over the past week is the addition of a link to www.value-added.orgwww.value-added.org provides nutritional information about dried distillers grains from ethanol plants across the state (and other states) in order to help livestock farmers develop feed rations that are adequate for their herd’s growth.

If you are a livestock farmer in Illinois, you really can’t afford not to take advantage of the resources ILDG offers.  The “Ask Nic” button on www.illinoislivestock.org is a great resource if you have questions about rules and regulations that need answering and the links to other pages like www.value-added.org can be extremely helpful as you seek to manage your farm.

Stay tuned for more useful updates to www.illinoislivestock.org!
