CELEBRITY SHINES LIGHT ON ETHANOL FACTS

Sep 18, 2012  |  Today's News

We at Illinois Corn have been sharing the story of ethanol for quite some time.  In fact, we most recently talked ethanol with members of the Illinois General Assembly at an event in August at the Chicagoland Speedway featuring NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace. Now, another celebrity is adding his cache to the ethanol discussion. Mike Rowe, of Dirty Jobs fame, is debuting a new mini-series on the Discovery Channel called, “How Booze Built America.”

You can catch Mike telling the story of how ethanol saved the whales and was one of the original renewable fuels tomorrow night on the Discovery Channel. This is the very same story we share with Illinois Legislators, but doesn’t it sound all the more believable when a celebrity is telling it? What Mike doesn’t share in this short video is that President Lincoln’s so-called “Spirit Tax” was $2 a gallon. That was an incredible burden at that time, and would be so now, as well.

Take a couple minutes to watch Mike in this video. And you may consider setting your DVR to record the new series on the Discovery Channel.
