The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois corn farmers, and their stadium which is completely open to agricultural messaging due to a partnership with IL Corn, represent a unique opportunity to get farmers and farm messages in front of a non-farm audience.  This weekend, we did just that as the Normal CornBelters presented Beef Night at the Corn Crib.

Illinois beef farmers were on hand, passing out samples and answering questions from the public.  Many in attendance had never met a real livestock farmer and were anxious to ask questions about antibiotics, corn fed versus grass fed, and pink slime.  These are the negative myths they have read about in the media and many are looking for an opportunity to hear about the issues from a farmer’s point of view.

The Illinois Beef Association also provided samples of their new taco cup which will be featured at the Illinois State Fair this year in August.  The Bloomington Normal audience loved the cup and look forward to tasting it again next month.

All-in-all, Friday night was just a celebration of beef.  Of burgers and steaks and the farmers who bring them to the table.  Even Corny enjoyed a bite.

Remember, members of the Illinois Corn Growers Association can enjoy a discounted night at the Corn Crib to see all the messaging and promotions there on Sunday nights throughout the season when you can score 50 percent off a box seat just by showing your membership card!
