NCGA WILLIAM C. BERG ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE IN AGRICULTURE SCHOLARSHIP

The National Corn Growers Association and BASF Corporation will again award five $1,000 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field.
Applicants for the NCGA William C. Berg Academic Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship Program must be entering at least their second undergraduate year or any year of graduate study, and they or a parent or legal guardian must be an NCGA member. Scholarship applications must be postmarked on or before December 13, 2013.
Scholarship recipients will be selected in early 2014. Recipients and a parent or guardian will enjoy travel and lodging to attend the 2014 Commodity Classic in San Antonio, Texas, to be recognized at the NCGA Banquet and have the opportunity to learn more about modern agriculture.
This is the seventh year for the partnership between BASF and NCGA.

Scholarship Description
1. Scholarships are for one year; previous winners may not reapply.
2. Scholarships may be used to offset tuition, school supplies, or student housing.
3. Funds will be issued directly to student in May 2014.
4. Scholarships awarded for 2014-2015 school year.
Applicant/Application Requirements
- Applicant must be entering at least his or her second undergraduate year at an accredited junior college, college or university.
- Applicant must be pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in an agricultural, agribusiness, or an ag vocation field.
- Applicant must be an NCGA member or son/daughter of an NCGA member.
- Employees and the families of employees of any division of BASF or their subsidiaries or the NCGA are not eligible for the scholarship.
- Applications must be postmarked by December 13, 2013.

About William C. Berg
The NCGA-BASF college scholarship program is named in honor of Ohio farmer William C. Berg. A retired postal worker and farmer for more than 40 years, Bill served in various positions for both the Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association and the National Corn Growers Association. He tirelessly carried the agriculture message to Washington, DC year after year, where he sat face-to-face with congressmen and senators to lobby for sound agriculture policy on behalf of his fellow farmers. He hosted meetings in his county and on his farm for elected officials, foreign corn buyers and his fellow farmers to tell agriculture’s story. For NCGA, he served on the Production and Stewardship and Grower Services Action Teams. He served as a judge for the NCGA-BASF scholarship program for its first five years and recommended many important adjustments to it that have ensured its continued success and enhanced the experience of the scholarship recipients. Bill passed away unexpectedly in 2012 and NCGA and Ohio Corn wished to honor his legacy. Program recipients can be proud to receive a scholarship honoring this staunch supporter of modern American agriculture.
