The Lake Springfield Watershed Project Committee invites farmers to attend a cover crop field day on Wednesday, August 6. The Lake Springfield Project is a program of several organizations including the Council on Best Management Practices, of which IL Corn is a board member. In the face of burdensome regulations and even an executive order, voluntary best management practices to conserve nutrients should be at the top of farmers’ minds.

Farmers have indicated interest in receiving more information about cover crops.  To answer this need, the Lake Springfield Project Committee is pleased to bring together experts in soil health who will cover the latest in cover crop research as it relates to nutrient management and water quality.

The day will include a catered lunch and a cover crop field demonstration. Speakers will include Dr. David Hammer, Professor of Soil Genesis, University of Missouri; Dr. Nicholas Goeser, Manager of Soil Health and Sustainability, National Corn Growers Association; Mike Plumer, Cover Crop Specialist, Illinois Council on Best Management Practices; Pete Fandel, Cover Crop Specialist, Illinois Central College.
