Join the Champaign County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Council on Best Management Practices, and IL Corn for the “Seeds over Central Illinois” event at 8 am on June 19, 2015 at the Paxton Airport in Paxton.

The June 19 program has been designed to engage farmers in the nutrient and water quality issues facing agriculture by providing information on possible nutrient losses from their production operations.

Nutrient losses impact water quality, but also your own bottom line.  If you’re curious about how much of your input costs are floating away down the local creek, you’ll definitely want to bring a water sample to this event, after reading the following instructions:

• Sample containers should be clean and free of any residual chemicals or detergents.
• Samples need to be at least 8 ounces.
• Samples should be taken as close to the testing time as possible (preferably within 48hrs) and be kept refrigerated if not being tested immediately.
• An estimate of flow will allow additional calculations (load in lbs/day) – simply record seconds it takes to fill up a 5 gallon bucket.

The results you’ll receive on June 19 are confidential and are owned by you. 

These results are simply a snapshot in time of ambient nutrient levels in water collected from tile drainage, surface runoff or nearby streams. Nutrient levels in runoff water can vary greatly depending on the time of year, temperature, rainfall and in-field practices.
