With the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency’s Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy now in place, IL Corn is encouraging all Illinois farmers to consider that best management practice(s) need to be used on your farm. To meet the goals outlined in the Strategy, we believe that action will be needed on every acre. These voluntary BMPs will help avoid regulation from state and/or federal agencies. Illinois could even be subject to a Presidential Executive Action if progress is not shown. Learn more about BMPs in the Lake Springfield Watershed at the information meeting in Auburn on February 4, 2016. Find more information on BMPs at www.illinoiscbmp.org.

A Lake Springfield Watershed informational meeting will be held from 8 am to 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 4th, at the Holy Cross Hall, 125 E. Washington in Auburn, IL.  Meeting registration begins at 8 a.m., with a light breakfast served.

Keynote speakers will be Dr. Lowell Gentry, U of I Principal Research Specialist in Agriculture, Barry Fisher, USDA-NRCS Region Soil Health Team Leader, Dan Perkins, Waterborne Environmental Lead Hydrologist, Dr. Howard Brown, GROWMARK Director of Nutrient Management and Environmental Stewardship, and Dick Lyons, IL Council on Best Management Practices Cover Crops Specialist.

This meeting will include information on experiences with BMPs for decreasing tile nitrate loads, the technology of successfully integrating BMPs, adaptive nutrient management and precision farming for higher soil health and function, analysis of water quality monitoring of nitrate data in the Lake Springfield Watershed, results from the second year on the N-WATCH and N-RATE trials, and an update on the IL Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy and a trip to the Chesapeake Bay area.

Lunch will be served.
