ILLINOIS CORN MARKETING BOARD CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF PARTNERSHIP WITH USAPEEC
The Illinois Corn Marketing Board celebrates a 20-year partnership with the U.S.A. Poultry and Egg Export Council (USAPEEC) in 2016. ICMB was one of the first commodity groups to recognize the value of promoting poultry and egg exports to corn farmers.
The poultry sector is the largest sector of corn usage among all livestock sectors, using 33 percent of all corn fed to livestock. The U.S. poultry and egg industry accounts for 13.9 percent of all the corn produced in the U.S.
Notable current poultry export news:
Consumption of broiler meat is at an all-time high in Mexico and imports are forecast to increase again next year to help meet the growing demand. Although the U.S. continues to be the leading supplier, a new Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) report form the Foreign Agricultural Service says that Brazil and China are seizing the opportunity to expand their exports to Mexico.
The report forecasts consumption to reach a record 4.18 million metric tons in 2017, the seventh consecutive record-breaking year. The continuation of affordable prices was cited as a key reason.
Mexico’s imports are projected to increase 3.8 percent in 2017 to 850,000 tons, with heavy demand for mechanically separated and deboned poultry meat by Mexican processors, and for chicken leg quarters.
Broiler consumption and production in Japan, which is on pace this year to break records set in 2015, is expected to remain high in 2017, according to a Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN) report from the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service.
Imports, primarily from Brazil, also are expected to set new highs this year, but are projected to moderate in 2017 as supplies mount.
