Information session planned for Dec. 8

JACKSONVILLE — Lincoln Land Community College-Jacksonville will offer two new courses in agricultural watershed management beginning in January.

The public is invited to an information session on Thursday, Dec. 8, 6-8 p.m., at LLCC-Jacksonville, 32 North Central Park Plaza. David Bowman, workforce coordinator and developer of the agricultural watershed management curriculum, will discuss the new courses and certificate programs available. Refreshments will be served.

The program, launched in fall 2016, offers farm owners, farm operators and agricultural service providers, as well as agriculture and environmental science students, the opportunity to advance their careers and knowledge in a field that is experiencing demands for greater productivity, while improving input efficiency and soil retention.

The following courses will be offered at LLCC-Jacksonville:

Agricultural Watershed Management (AWM 107) runs Jan. 9-26, Monday-Thursday from 7:30-11:15 a.m. This course identifies the complexities of government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and best management practices in today’s watershed environment.

Conservation Practice Systems I (AWM 101) runs Jan. 30-March 2, Monday-Thursday from 7:30-11:45 a.m. This course features surface-level cultural activities to build soil strength through cover crops.

The program curriculum was created through funds from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant.
