IL Corn was pleased to participate in the delivery of 7,500 pounds of ground pork to the Midwest Foodbank in Normal, IL today.

Together with the Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA), the Illinois Soybean Association and the Illinois Association of Meat Processors, the Pork Power: Partnering to Fight Hunger campaign has donated more than 50,000 pounds of ground pork to the eight regional foodbanks in Illinois during November and December.

“When given the opportunity to give back to our rural communities, it was a given that we would contribute to this program.  Not only do we love the opportunity to partner with the other Illinois commodity groups, but we look forward to feeding the hungry in Illinois every year.  Considering the impact this program and our partnership has made over the longevity of the program, we all feel great about our involvement and the good we’ve accomplished together,” said Paul Jeschke, ICMB chairman.

In 2008, IPPA launched Pork Power with the goal of helping fight hunger in Illinois. It provides a system for farmers to donate pork to food banks throughout Illinois.

Since its inception 9 years ago, Pork Power has generated nearly 570,000 pounds of pork - enough for nearly 2.9 million meals - for families throughout Illinois.
