ICGA Continues to Advocate for Lower Fertilizer Costs

On June 29, President Trump suspended countervailing duties on phosphate fertilizer imports from Morocco for eight months after declaring a national emergency related to fertilizer supplies for American farmers. The move was intended to increase fertilizer availability, encourage competition, and help reduce input costs for farmers.

Last week, the U.S. Department of Commerce issued a preliminary recommendation supporting the continuation of those duties as part of an ongoing sunset review. The public comment period is now open, and U.S. Department of Commerce is expected to issue a final decision within the next eight months.

The IL Corn Growers Association (ICGA) continues to support policies that increase competition in the fertilizer marketplace and provide farmers with more purchasing options. ICGA believes lower fertilizer costs are critical as Illinois farmers continue to navigate challenging economic conditions.
