Live from the Cab: A Real-Time Look at Planting Season in Illinois

By Tara Desmond April 23, 2026

IL Corn Director of Communications and Marketing Lindsay Croke sat down with Brady Gray of Gray Family Farms while he was actively planting in Waverly, Illinois. Farming alongside his father and grandfather, Brady helps manage a corn and soybean operation, giving him a unique perspective on both the tradition and evolution of family farming.

In this episode, Brady shares that he loves the satisfaction of caring for the land to the reward of a successful harvest. He also opens up about the realities farmers are facing today, including tight margins and challenging commodity prices. His advice to fellow farmers is simple but critical: focus on being a low-cost producer, understand your break-even point, and keep communication strong within your operation.

The conversation also highlights how their farm integrates a trucking business, adding another layer of complexity and opportunity during the year.

Filmed right from the tractor cab, this episode offers an authentic, behind-the-scenes look at the dedication, decision-making, and passion that drive Illinois farmers every day.
