Each summer, IL Corn brings in young agricultural communicators who will play a key role in sharing the organization’s mission. These internships are not only learning experiences for students, but also an important part of IL Corn’s outreach and advocacy efforts.

This summer, IL Corn is excited to welcome two Communications Interns: Jennie Abbott and Lydia Rogers. With strong backgrounds in both agriculture and communications, they bring valuable skills and passion to support IL Corn’s mission.

Abbott is from Orion, Illinois, where she was raised on a livestock and row crop farming operation. Her involvement in the Orion FFA chapter sparked a passion for agricultural advocacy. This fall, she will begin her senior year at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, majoring in Agricultural Communications.

“I’m grateful for the chance to apply the skills I’ve developed at the University of Illinois to support IL Corn while continuing to grow both personally and professionally,” Abbott said.

Outside of work, Abbott enjoys being outside, taking photos, and spending time with friends and family.

Rogers grew up in Groveland, Illinois, and developed a passion for agriculture early on. At just eight years old, she joined Tazewell County 4-H, where she spent the next decade raising and showing livestock. She continued to pursue her passion for agriculture as a member of the Illinois Central College Livestock Judging Team the past two years. This fall, Lydia will begin her junior year at Iowa State University, majoring in Agri-Business.

“I’m really excited to learn more about IL Corn, share their mission with others, and grow professionally,” Lydia said.

In her free time, Rogers enjoys reading, spending time with her livestock, and being outside.

This summer, Abbott and Rogers will contribute to a variety of initiatives, including Ag in the Classroom programming, legislative efforts, marketing projects, and preparations for the Farm Progress Show. Stay tuned for content they will produce.
