Where Does My Food Come From?

Seed for Feed

Corn Plastic

Ingredients:

1 tbsp corn flour

1 tbsp water

2 drops liquid food coloring

2 drops corn oil

1 plastic bag

Directions:

  1. Mix the corn flour, water, corn oil, and food coloring inside of your plastic bag.
  2. Microwave your mixture for 10-20 seconds. Be sure to leave the bag open a tiny bit so that steam can escape. Be careful, the plastic will be hot.
  3. Let it cool for several minutes.
  4. Once cool enough to touch, you can remove your plastic from the bag and shape it into whatever you want.

Edible Corn Flour Paint

Ingredients:

2 cups of corn flour

1 cup of cold water

4.5 cups of boiling water

Liquid food coloring

Directions:

  1. Mix the corn flour and cold water together.
  2. Pour in the boiling water one cup at a time, stirring between each one. Keep stirring until it turns into a custardy consistency.
  3. Then separate the mixture into different jars/boxes before adding your colors.
  4. Refrigerate after using and it will keep for a few days.

Corn Heat Bags

Ingredients:

100% cotton, linen, or wool fabric (microwave safe)

Field corn

Sewing machine or kit

Directions:

  1. Sew a pillowcase (or any shape) out of a sturdy fabric.
  2. Fill with field corn.
  3. Sew shut.
  4. To heat, place in the microwave for about 2 - 3 minutes.

Corn Dough

Ingredients:

1/2 cup corn starch

1/2 cup conditioner

3 drops food coloring

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, mix your corn starch and conditioner until it has an even consistency.
  2. Add in food coloring.
  3. Knead with your hands until smooth.
  4. Shape into anything.
