IL Corn invited Congressman Chuy García to Tortilleria Atotonilco, a tortilla factory located in Chicago’s Back of the Yards neighborhood. The visit brought together rural and urban lifestyles to showcase how Illinois corn farmers support businesses all across the state, even in Chicago.

The factory and two Tacorillas Atotonilco restaurants are owned by a corn farmer, Oscar Muñoz, from Kankakee. He uses his own corn, along with other Illinois grown corn, to produce the tortillas sold and served in his restaurants.

During the tour, Rep. García and his staff met with factory workers, saw the corn tortilla-making process, and stopped by one of the family-owned restaurants to enjoy authentic food made with Illinois corn.

This visit was a way to bring rural and urban communities together. From farm fields to factory lines to family tables, Illinois corn farmers and urban communities support each other through family businesses and love for great food.

Thank you, Rep. García, for taking the time to learn more about Illinois’ farm-to-table process and to see firsthand the value of Illinois agriculture in every part of the state.
