Lena Head Celebrates Her First Mother’s Day with Baby Callahan

By Tara Desmond May 7, 2026

This Mother’s Day, Illinois corn farmer and board director Lena Head is celebrating a brand-new role - mom.

On April 13, Lena and her family welcomed their son, Callahan Malcolm Head, into the world. Weighing in at 9 pounds, 6 ounces and measuring 22 inches long, Callahan made quite the entrance arriving right in the middle of spring planting season.

“Welcoming Callahan during one of the busiest times on the farm has been a whirlwind, but also incredibly special,” Lena shared. “It’s a reminder of how quickly seasons change not just in the field, but in life too.”

While he may not be quite ready to run the planter just yet, Callahan has already made a few early visits to the farm shop and his first introductions to the place that means so much to his family.

For Lena, becoming a mother has added a deeper layer of meaning to her work in agriculture.

“It makes you think even more about the future, the land you’re caring for and the legacy you’re building,” she said. “Everything feels a little more purposeful.”

As she looks ahead, Lena is excited for the day Callahan can experience farm life for himself.

“I can’t wait to show him what it means to grow something from the ground up,” she said. “There’s so much pride in that and so many lessons along the way.”

This Mother’s Day, we celebrate Lena and all farm moms who are raising the next generation both in their families and in agriculture.
