IL Corn has two separate boards with two separate strategies. Illinois Corn Growers Association (ICGA) and Illinois Corn Marketing Board (ICMB). The mission of the ICGA is through grassroots advocacy, create a future for Illinois corn farmers in which they can operate responsibly, freely, and successfully. The mission of the ICMB is through strategic investment of Illinois corn checkoff dollars, grow demand, create new markets and foster understanding of corn farmers and the corn industry.

What is Unique about your business?

IL Corn Growers Association is a state-based organization that represents the interests of corn farmers in Illinois, maintaining a high profile on issues in Washington, DC, and Springfield, IL. Through grassroots advocacy, ICGA creates a future for Illinois farmers in which they can operate freely, responsibly, and successfully. In order to fulfill this mission, the organization conducts governmental affairs activities at all levels, market development projects, and educational and member service programs. Because the Illinois Corn Marketing Act precludes the use of corn checkoff dollars for legislative activities, ICGA utilizes membership dues to sustain a notable legislative presence in Springfield, IL, and Washington, DC.

Export Market: Priority Issues

Exports are a growing opportunity.

Making export growth a priority extends to the locks and dams priority (we need adequate infrastructure to move grain) and the ethanol priority (ethanol exports is a growing market). "Exports" is the place where many of our programs overlap.

IL Corn works with several important partners to accomplish our international export goals, including:

The Illinois corn checkoff increased their investment in the U.S. Meat Export Federation in 2021. That investment is starting to pay off.

Beef and pork export volumes and values are increasing, allowing livestock farmers in the U.S. to grow more livestock and feed more corn. In 2020, beef and pork exports used 530.5 million bushels of corn. At an average annual price of $3.52/bushel, beef and pork exports accounted for $1.87 billion in market value to the corn industry.
